About the workshop:

Stalking is a complex phenomenon: it may involve anything from reputational harassment to intimidation to serious physical or sexual harm; it may be committed by one or more perpetrators against one or more victims; and it may have multiple motivations. The SAM-V2 is a set of structured professional judgment (SPJ) guidelines for assessing and managing the risk of stalking developed on the basis of a systematic review of the relevant scientific, professional, and legal literature. The SAM-V2 helps evaluators to investigate and understand the nature of the stalking that has been committed, the personal characteristics of those who perpetrated the stalking, and the vulnerabilities of victims. Based on this information, the SAM-V2 helps evaluators to develop a formulation of stalking risk, identify plausible scenarios for stalking, and develop scenario-based management plans. The SAM-V2 is being released in November 2023 and this will be the first training globally on the new version, presented by one of the developers of the SAM.

The overarching goal of this workshop is to enhance the evidence-based practice of participants with respect to the assessment of risk for stalking using Version 2 of the Guidelines for Stalking Assessment and Management (SAM-V2). For Day One, the specific goal is to enhance participants’ understanding of critical issues concerning the risk of stalking and its assessment. On Day Two, the specific goal is to build foundational skills in the use of the SAM-V2. The workshop is designed for professionals whose work involves risk assessment and management, including those working in criminal justice, security, victim services, forensic mental health, civil mental health, general health care, social services, human resources, occupational health and safety, and legal services.
