Malcolm McGuire

My name is Malcolm McGuire and I am a native of Los Angeles, California. I am a married father of two. I am a 22-year law enforcement veteran and currently serve as the Police Inspector for Threat Management at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX. My responsibilities include supervising a team of investigators who assess individuals who threaten or there is reason to believe have the intent, to commit acts of violence against members of the SMU community. I also serve as the coordinator of the SMU Behavioral Threat Assessment & Management Team, the only university-led BTAM team in the state of Texas. I am dedicated to preventing acts of targeted violence in higher education and desire to see campuses worldwide embrace behavioral threat assessment and management.

I have conducted training nationally and internationally on conflict resolution, diversity, effective communication, and threat assessment. I am a veteran of the United States Air Force where I served as a Security Forces Non-Commissioned Officer. I have attained multiple certifications such as a Master Peace Officer, Advanced Instructor, Mental Health Peace Officer, Certified Fraud Examiner, and Certified Workplace Violence Threat Specialist. I am currently preparing to sit for the Certified Threat Manager exam.

I am a proud member of the Association ofThreat Assessment Professionals, where I serve as National Co-Chair for the Law Enforcement Scholarship Committee and Vice President of the South-Central Chapter. I am an equally proud member of the African Association of Threat Assessment Professionals and have been fortunate to speak at the annual conference in 2023 and 2024. I have also presented at the ATAP Threat Management Conference in Anaheim, CA, and the Canadian Association ofThreatAssessment Professionals Conference in British Columbia, Canada.
