Riana Taute

I joined Absa in 2013 after spending time at various other institutions; SAPS, SABRIC and FNB to name a few. With over twenty-five years of specialized experience in crime analysis, risk management, and investigations, I have carved a niche in addressing insider threats and delivering effective solutions in this complex field.

My journey as an Analyst in the Insider Threat Program at Absa began about 6 years ago, where I delved into driving out operational and analytical aspects, focusing on insider threat trends and patterns. This role was enriched by my Professional Certificate in Insider Threat Program Evaluation from Carnegie Mellon University, demonstrating my commitment to industry best practices.

My expertise is not just in analysis but in turning data into a narratives that drive informed decision making. In my current capacity as the Head of Ml and Analytics, I revolutionized the department by automating reports and visualizing data, transforming raw information into actionable business insights. I have pursued courses in Artificial Intelligence, Data Analysis for Management, and Data Science Essentials. I received an award in 2024 for Women in Data – Citizenship category, where I could demonstrate my commitment to ensuring that colleagues become data literate through direct interventions and on line courses.

I am committed to AfATAP’s or as it is sometimes called Aftap’s, mission to educate and develop threat assessment professionals on a Pan-African scale. I am also a true believer in the significant impact it has in fostering collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and proactive threat assessment across industries. As a dedicated professional with over 25 years of experience in crime analysis, investigations, and risk management, I am passionate about driving initiatives that enhance our collective understanding of risks.

I look forward to contributing to the association by ensuring effective communication, supporting structured decision-making, and helping to advance our shared goals.
