The corporal, conspiracy, and countertransference: A case study of best practices in BTAM and workplace violence prevention

An AfATAP webinar presented by: Dr Matt Talbot: Senior Threat Manager: Kroger Co. (USA)

30 Nov  2023: 14h00-15h30 (Johannesburg time)

About the webinar: The corporal, conspiracy, and countertransference: A case study of best practices in BTAM and workplace violence prevention

The presentation explores the case of an averted bombing of a medical facility in 2017.  While the case is healthcare-centric, the approaches to threat assessment and management detailed offer multi-sector considerations.  As well, the case offers insight into strategies for tailoring management interventions to military veterans as is relevant for all organizations employing or working with this population.  The presentation places emphasis on the management strategies of a multidisciplinary team and how the team addressed fear, panic, and preferences for popular and punitive responses by the organization over proportionate interventions to mitigate stigmatization of a mentally ill subject and avoid ethical and bias pitfalls.  The presenter will highlight key infrastructure of a workplace violence prevention program that led to the successful management of this case as a best practice in alignment with the most recent ASIS/SHRM standards.  Designed for novice to experienced professionals, attendees will leave with enhanced insight into establishing a workplace violence prevention program, the criticality of a multidisciplinary approach to violence prevention, and nuanced approaches to optimally support military veterans experiencing emotional crises.
