Carol Labour

Dr. Carol Labor is a current AfATAP Board member, and is the Founder and Principal Consultant of Women’s Wellness; Senior Mental Health Adviser, (Presidential Appointment), Sierra Leone, West Africa; and Vice-Chair of Africa CDC’s High-Level Advisory Committee on NCDs and Mental Health.

With over 3 decades of professional experience in people-centered roles inclusive of 14 years international experience in gender-focused education, Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Services (MHPSS) and Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) services, and the pioneer of employee wellness programs in Sierra Leone, she is charged with designing and developing the framework for scaling up the accessibility and availability of mental health and addiction(s) service delivery for over 7.5 million people in Sierra Leone.

An award winning SGBV survivor, Mental Health and Resilience Coach, advocate, speaker, facilitator, researcher, and scholar-practitioner, her work is grounded at the intersectionality of gender, mental health, and trauma. She enjoys leading conversations about her healing-centered work at the intersectionality of mental health disorders and trauma (physical, sexual, emotional); and the impact in the nuerocognitive, social, and emotional development in women and girls.

Using a trauma-informed pedagogy, Dr Carol designs, develops and delivers scalable interventions and public health education curricula, training of trainers, professional development, technical assistance, and capacity building, interactive group employee dialogues and workshops in the areas of Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Services (MHPSS), Organizational Wellness Support Services; Self and Collective Care, Mental Health and Wellness, Gender Specific Development and Empowerment, Diversity and Inclusion; Trauma; all forms of Gender-Based Violence (GBV); Social Determinants of Health; Adverse Childhood Experiences; and Trauma-Informed Care/Services/ Approaches.

Dr. Carol has provided technical assistance in the areas of mental health strategies, policies and programming; and/or capacity building and MHPSS trainings for the Government of Sierra Leone, UN Women, Purposeful, Rainbo, SOS Children’s Villages, JHPIEGO, Africa CDC and UNICEF.

Her purpose has a global reach, aimed at maximize well-being with experience in creating and co­creating individual and collective care initiatives, scalable MHPSS interventions for survivors of SGBV and safe spaces to support the mental health and well-being of multicultural and multilingual women and girls from countries including, but not limited to Sierra Leone, Liberia, Haiti, Ghana, Turkey, Syria, China,Jamaica, Mexico, Iraq, Rwanda, Kenya, South Africa, England, and the United States.
